Textile Manipulation Project One
Textile Manipulation Project Two
This independent study collection explores the dichotomy of the mid-century sailor, specifically the reality of teenagers as young as 18 who had their youth abruptly stripped away. Bound by a uniform palette of navy blue, white, and black, the collection explores textile manipulation techniques and how they can illustrate this internal struggle. The naval uniform historically symbolized both the romanticized ideal of freedom and the rigorous reality of the Military Industrial Complex. By juxtaposing vertical constraint against horizontal volume, these garments manipulate flat fabric to express confined uniformity, emotionality, and resilience.
