Digital Design

Computer Aided Patternmaking Final Project

May 2026

Phase one: Research, Digital Metamorphosis, and Fitting

Before diving into software, I spent hours analyzing WGSN trend forecasts and deeply researching the dark romantic world of Alexander McQueen to capture the right theatrical mood. Bringing that initial fantasy to life meant translating complex human forms into a digital landscape using V-Stitcher. This stage was all about the magic of fit and simulation. I sculpted the silhouettes for both the dramatic Mikado dress and the tailored Sovereign outfit, tweaked pattern pieces in real time, and worked through challenging drape issues on a virtual avatar. It felt like a digital trial by fire, a crucial step to make sure the avant-garde lines fell perfectly against the body before a single inch of fabric was ever cut.

Phase two: Materialization

Moving from pixels into actual tactile reality was a true labor of love. I took those tested, secure digital blueprints and laid the pattern pieces bare onto real-world fabrics, working carefully with the heavy, structured luxury of the Mikado silk for the dress. The journey ultimately came to an end at the sewing machine, where I constructed, engineered, and poured raw human craftsmanship into the textiles. It was incredibly rewarding to watch a flat digital rendering transform into living, structural garments ready for the physical world.

Phase three: The Final Garment and Presentation

Seeing the completed physical garments outside of the digital space was an unforgettable moment. The heavy Mikado fabric held its dramatic shape beautifully. It had the cupcake shape I was looking for! To bring everything full circle, I styled the looks and compiled the entire journey into a cinematic presentation. Watching the garments move through the lens, showcasing the rich texture and theatrical energy we envisioned from the very beginning, felt like witnessing a digital ghost finally become entirely human.
